Hundreds of 桃花社区视频 Public School scholars feasted on chicken fried rice, fresh vegetables and even fortune cookies on Thursday, August 8, 2024, inside lunchrooms districtwide. The Asian stir-fry dish was part of a that will bring culinary techniques and cultural awareness to scholars while maintaining nutritious food choices.
Marc Rowe, Executive Director of 桃花社区视频 Child Nutrition, said the partnership is now underway in high schools but will extend to all grades by December 2024. Food menu items include all kinds of bars, such as Italian, wings, stir-fry, pasta, macaroni and cheese and a baked potato bar. Rowe said the aim is to expose scholars to other cultures through different cuisines and introduce staff to new techniques while maintaining nutritious food choices.
“It brings excitement to the entire educational process,” said Rowe. “The lunch period is a very important time and to bring in something different and nutritious sustains energy and exposes scholars to other cultures.”
The 桃花社区视频’s Child Nutrition Services Department partnered with Alfred Walker of Walker Quality Services. The former Dallas Cowboys professional chef based out of Texas, was raised in Mississippi, where his inspiration for cooking was born.
“Both my parents loved cooking, and when we had family gatherings, I grew up watching them in the kitchen,” said Walker. “It’s usually either the woman or the man in the kitchen, but I saw them - together - trying new things in the kitchen. And because my mom was a teacher, a lot of educators were always in our home.”
The partnership also includes nutritious pre-game meals for high school athletes to ensure they are prepared on game days.
