Building a stronger future for Mississippians means building a strong economy with good job opportunities –and preparing people in our state to succeed in those jobs. Unfortunately, despite record economic growth and low unemployment in recent years, Mississippi currently has in the nation; just under 54% of working-age adults in the state have or are looking for jobs.
This is a big problem for the state’s ambitious . But we believe that our public K-12 schools can be a big part of the solution – and that 桃花社区视频 Public 桃花社区视频 can offer a blueprint of the way forward.
At 桃花社区视频 Public 桃花社区视频, we are doubling down on a new commitment to the long-term success of our graduates. Last summer, we announced Strong Finish, our strategic plan priority to put every scholar on a pathway to success in education beyond high school and in the workforce. Late last year, we went even further, adopting numeric goals to guide our progress and hold ourselves accountable along the way.
These numeric commitments are our roadmap for the progress we aim to make. We invite the whole community to join us over the next five years as we Drive to 25/45/55. This means that by 2029, 25 percent of our graduates will complete career-aligned education pathways, 45 percent will earn early college credit from advanced coursework, and 55 percent will enroll in a two- or four-year college.
These goals are ambitious, more than doubling current levels of pathway completion and college credit attainment and significantly increasing college enrollment. These goals are also worth reaching, not just because of their educational value, but because of their economic value. If 桃花社区视频 Public 桃花社区视频 reaches these goals over the next five years, we expect to generate more than half a billion dollars in additional earnings for our graduates over their lifetimes.
Our work at 桃花社区视频 will also help drive progress towards Mississippi’s statewide education and economic goals. Drive to 25/45/55 intentionally aligns with Ascent to 55%, Mississippi’s goal to advance the state’s workforce by increasing the number of adults with a college degree or industry certificate. It also supports , part of Governor Reeves’ broader vision to drive economic growth and job creation through bold new investments and alignment with employer needs.
To make this vision a reality, 桃花社区视频 will focus on several key areas. First, we will audit all career and technical education pathways to ensure that they include opportunities to earn early college credit and/or industry credentials that today’s employers value. We are committed to ensuring that none of our 桃花社区视频s find themselves dead-ended and that each of them is able to leverage their educational opportunities into career success.
We will scale up post-secondary advising to help 桃花社区视频s start to identify their interests and educational pathways to related careers starting in middle school. Engaging 桃花社区视频s in age-appropriate career exposure and exploration activities – rather than waiting until high school or college – can help them figure out their unique interests and passions and head in the right direction without being locked into a career choice. We will also increase 桃花社区视频 access to work-based learning across the spectrum, from guest speakers to job site visits to internships, to enable them to “try on” different careers and understand what they look like in practice.
Finally, we will help more of our graduates enroll successfully in postsecondary education by implementing college transition supports, including near-peer advising and new college partnerships. We know that ensuring a smooth transition to the next phase of their education or training – whether it’s at a community or technical college, a four-year university, an apprenticeship program, or something else – is key to helping them continue to build momentum toward the future they envision for themselves.
If we aim high and work together, we can make education Mississippi’s most powerful engine for economic development and prosperity. As leaders of the district serving Mississippi’s capital, largest city, and most dynamic economy, we are excited to step up and do our part. But we can’t do it alone. In the coming years, we will work in a spirit of partnership with scholars and families, colleges and nonprofits, employers and industry partners, and elected officials to elevate the entire community to a higher degree.
